How yummy does that look?
I was finally trying out my food dehydrator I got for Christmas. On the left is potato chips seasoned with a bit of salt and jerk seasoning. And the right is candied banana slices and sour apple slices. They were just a tryout to see how long they would taste and how much I would have to tweek it. So far I love them. Gonna make a bunch on Thurs/Fri and have a horror movie marathon on the weekend. Just gotta kick up the jerk seasoning a bit. Not spicy enough for me.
If you have a dehydrator, try out making your own chips. It will save you a ton of money and its alot better for you. AL

I don't know if it's just me, but my liner brushes are always the first to go. The majority of the painting stuff I do I outline in black so always need clean crisp tiny brushes. Within months, and sometimes even weeks, I always find myself getting new liner brushes because mine start to get yucky, or the bristles don't co-operate. And with paying $1.80-$6 a brush for each size I want (I usually get 3 different sizes/lengths) it sometimes tends to be pricier than the paint or canvas itself.
I was surfing on ebay for a better (or bulk) deal and found the brushes shown above. They are brushes for nail polish but I figure how different could they be if nail polish is as thick and sometimes as strong as paint. And for only $2.60 I thought it was worth a try. So I bought a set.. the same set in the pic. I got them today and they feel FABULOUS! They're as long and sturdy as the acrylic/watercolor brushes I usually buy at the art supply store, but I find this set from ebay has better quality bristles and a better selection.
There was 2 fan brushes, a few angled brushes, some liners, and pin stripe brushes, one of which the bristles were about 1.5 inches long. There was even a metal tool included called a doting tool, which will be amazing for freckles, fireworks, sand, and anything else thats supposed to look textured. The pinstriping brushes will be awesome when it comes to painting hair, fireworks, etc.
I tested them out when I opened up the package and they feel better than I thought they would when first ordering. Considering I only paid $2.60 on ebay and thats the price of ONE brush I usually get... I think I got a pretty good deal.
And since they cater to nail polish, they are strong enough to handle a good cleaning with something as strong as nail polish remover.
If you want to try out this set (and there are many other kinds) just type in "nail art brush set" into ebay's search box. A ton of them will pop up.
Happy painting!

Lord Vader 02/06/2010

It was time for some new artwork in the dining room. After watching Star Wars (yes, Im over 20 years late) I decided on Darth Vader.

I found this awesome vector of Vader online that I loved. It was simple but bold. It only took a couple days to finish it but I love it.

Its 24x36 inches on gallery wrapped canvas. And the saber was painted with this pearl finish paint to give it a shiny look. I think it turned out awesome!

Does anyone else have movie/music themed artwork in their house? I have another Johnny Cash painting, and of course Elvis around my house. And now Lord Vader.

So, it's been a month... give or take a few days, and my areogarden is outta control. The basil and chives are growing like weeds. In just a week or so I will be ready to harvest some and start using it.

This is seriously the EASIEST garden Ive ever had! The lights turn off and on by themselves with a built-in timer and all I have to do is put in the nutrient and add a little water to it when the orange light comes on. Which is only about every 2 weeks.

This is PERFECT for the lazy gardener who loves fresh herbs and veggies.

I would recommend it to anyone.

I noticed earlier that one of my records had a huge scratch in it. Luckily, it was one of the records that I don't really care about. Already in a stumper on how to store my belt buckles, I decided to make a record bowl instead of adding it to Toronto's junk pile.
It took less than 5 minutes from start to finish and now my belt buckles have a happy home.

Sorry about the crappy pics in this post. I was using my cellphone.

How was everyone's holidays? Mine was great!
My sister and I cooked a HUGE (and I mean HUGE) Christmas dinner.. we had so much food that we had to send my brothers home with 3-4 tupperwares of food/deserts home at the end of the night. AND I still had leftover for the next 4 days!
But it was awesome. Christmas movies/music, my brothers came over (which is a huge feat for one who usually Scrooges out),  lots of good home cooking, presents, laughing and so on.
Between 2 days of Christmas, my Bday and New Years being so close together... Im glad its finally all over.
Rundown of a couple of my favorite gifts: new aquarium and fishies (I'll post pics later. It's hard to take a decent pic without the picture turning to friggen bright), a food dehydrator, areogargen, and a record player. My John Denver and the Muppets Christmas Record has worked hard this holiday season! haha

I really love my areogarden. I've always wanted to try it. I've only had it plugged in for about 5 days and already they're starting to grow strong. Right now I've got basil, chives and thyme in there. After that I will probably move to vegetables... Maybe some lettuce, cherry tomatoes and peppers/jalapenos.
Ok and New Years Resolutions... who's got em? Mine is going to be vague. Mine is just MORE. More posting on here, do more artwork, try more new recipes, sew, crochet & knit more, take more random photography, have more fun, tell more jokes.. etc. The possibilities are endless.

The white one is the big 6footer. Can you tell I love the holidays? More pics tomorrow... camera batteries died.

I cannot wait! Although the last few months have been some of the hardest, busiest and most stressful I've had in a WHILE, its all starting to slow down. And thank god!
I finally feel like I'm settled into my new apartment, although I do have a few 'odds and ends' boxes tossed into the hall closet (that's what they're there for, right?)
The dogs are kosher and mainly sleeping through the holidays.
The biggest goal I have for this week is organizing my painting/art/craft and sewing supplies in the cubbys I bought. Oh, and start up/finish some new paintings.
Other than that, I'm just getting ready for Christmas. 99% of all the gifts are bought, obnoxious Christmas music is all stored on the ipod, trees (yes more than one! lol) are put up, recipes are ready to be turned into food, and the dogs Santa-inspired costumes are bought. All I need to do now is hang the stockings, and decorate a little more to get into the Christmas spirit.

Tomorrow's picture post: Christmas decorations/tree? Yes, I think so!

Oh, and p.s. IT SNOWED YESTERDAY!!! :-D

Today is Thanksgiving in Canada. What are your plans? Here, Im not doing much of anything. My sister is overseas until Fri so we're going to celebrate Thanksgiving next weekend.
So today Im just cleaning up, and my friend J is coming over... horror movies and foods for us. Then later on tonight I will probably paint some more.
Here's my latest painting:

Its 39x31 inches and I really love it. My sister already sent me an email asking for it haha She might just get it as part of her Christmas gift.

yey the dining room is done. I painted my dining room table in a zebra print and finally unpacked some odds and ends. And, can you tell I LOVE Ikea? The table, chairs, red lockers, candles and canvas are all from Ikea. LOL My apartment is like a showroom.

There will be some fan-art on this website. I love painting Simpsons, Family Guy, etc cause Im a big fan of those cartoons and love to put up fun fan art paintings in my home. This is just going to be a blog where I can doodle my life away. Im a self-proclaimed dork from Toronto, who spends her days crafting and her nights cuddling with doggies and watching Elvis movies. My body is my canvas, and so far my canvas is almost half finished. I love every kind of art... body art included. Feel free to comment if you like what you see. I'll post more links and stuff on here later. Im still in the middle of fixing everything up. xoxo Diane
